Facts may be facts - but when we learn the circumstances
and reasons for things, we often change our opinion of the
situation.
Our understanding of a situation depends on what we
perceive to be true. I was on the airplane recently and a
woman nearby was traveling with two small children. For the
last half hour of the flight the three year old was fussy
and cried loudly. The crying went on and on and several
people looked annoyed. Then a lady across the aisle asked,
"Do you have some gum for his ears?" "No, I'm
out and I don't have anything for him to chew." Then,
even though the gum the lady shared with them came too late
to give the boy too much relief, the people sitting around
began to show sympathy rather than annoyance. Point of View.
POV.
(Directors use Point of View to convey the emotion
they are trying to portray.)
Point of View - Luke 21:1-4 - The widow's gift was
insignificant compared to the gifts of the rich, but Jesus,
who knew her circumstances, said that she gave more than all
the others.
Point of View - Matthew 19:13-15 - The disciples thought
the children were in the way and bothering Jesus. Jesus saw
their innocence and blessed them. "The Kingdom will
belong to such as these."
Point of View - James 3:13-18 - Who is wise? Who
should we look up to? The rich? The powerful? The learned? What
is wisdom?
Here is what the Bible says:
"Who is wise and
understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life,
by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
But if you harbor bitter envy
and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it
or deny the truth.
Such "wisdom" does
not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of
the devil.
For where you have envy and
selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil
practice.
But the wisdom that comes
from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving,
considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit,
impartial and sincere.
Peacemakers who sow in peace
raise a harvest of righteousness."
